SUCCESS STORIES

A Journey from Child Labour to Dignity
A Success Story of My Abhilasha
In the year 2010, an incident changed the course of a young boy’s life forever. One afternoon, while passing near Nicco Park, I noticed a small boy standing by the roadside with his hands stretched out, asking strangers for money. His clothes were worn out, his face covered with dust, and his eyes carried the silent pain of hunger and helplessness. At that moment, he was just another child lost in the crowd — another victim of poverty and circumstance.
The next day, when I passed the same road again, I saw him once more. But this time he wasn’t begging. Instead, he was working in a small roadside tea stall, carrying cups of hot tea to customers. The boy was hardly old enough to go to school, yet life had already forced him into the harsh world of child labour.
That sight stayed in my mind.I decided to find out more about his story.
After speaking with him, I went to meet his parents. What I discovered was heartbreaking. His family had been living a simple life until the devastating cyclone Cyclone Aila struck their village. The disaster destroyed their home, their livelihood, and almost everything they had built over the years. With no savings and no stable income, survival became their only priority. Some days they couldn’t even manage two meals a day. In such circumstances, sending their child to school felt like an impossible luxury.
To help the family survive, the young boy had no option but to work. But childhood is not meant for labour. it is meant for dreams, learning, and hope. The very next day, I took the boy with me and enrolled him in Sukanta Nagar Goyal Bati Higher Secondary School. That moment marked the beginning of a new chapter in his life.
From that day onward, his education became one of the main priorities of My Abhilasha. At that time, we were already supporting 35 underprivileged children, ensuring that poverty would not steal their right to education.
The journey was not easy. There were financial struggles, emotional challenges, and many moments when giving up seemed easier. But with continuous support, encouragement, and guidance, the boy slowly started transforming. From a child who once served tea at a roadside stall, he became a determined student who began to believe in himself.
Years passed. The boy who once begged outside an amusement park stood proudly as a young man ready to enter the professional world. Recently, he appeared for an interview at Genius Consultants Ltd. With confidence and determination, he faced the interview — and succeeded. He secured a job with a monthly salary of INR 7,500. For many people, it might seem like a small beginning. But for him, it represents dignity, independence, and a future filled with possibilities. It is proof that when a child is given education instead of labour, the results can change not only one life but an entire family's destiny. This success story stands as a reminder of our mission:
Say NO to Child Labour Say YES to Quality Education
And this is just the beginning.
There are many more children waiting for an opportunity, many more dreams waiting to be nurtured, and many more milestones yet to be achieved under the platform of My Abhilasha.
From the bottom of my heart, I sincerely thank all our well-wishers, donors, and supporters who continue to believe in this mission.
Because every child saved from labour and given education is a future rewritten.
